Fraction Calculator

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions or mixed numbers with full step-by-step work. Simplify any fraction, and convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages — all in one tool, with no precision loss even on huge numbers.

✏️ Enter two fractions

Fraction A
Fraction B
Tip: leave the "whole" box at 0 for a simple fraction, or fill it in for a mixed number like 2 3/4. Supports arbitrarily large numerators/denominators — no separate "big number" tool needed.

FAQ

How do you add or subtract fractions with different denominators?
Find the least common denominator (LCD) of both fractions, convert each fraction to an equivalent fraction with that denominator, then add or subtract the numerators and keep the common denominator. Finally, simplify the result by dividing numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor. This calculator shows every one of those steps automatically.
How do you multiply and divide fractions?
To multiply fractions, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together, then simplify. To divide fractions, flip the second fraction (find its reciprocal) and multiply instead — dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal.
How do I convert a mixed number to an improper fraction?
Multiply the whole number by the denominator, add the numerator, and place that total over the original denominator. For example, 2 3/4 becomes (2×4+3)/4 = 11/4. Enter the whole-number part in the "whole" box and this calculator converts it automatically.
How do you convert a fraction to a decimal or percentage?
Divide the numerator by the denominator to get the decimal value. To convert that decimal to a percentage, multiply by 100 and add a percent sign. The Calculate and Fraction → Decimal panels show both automatically alongside the simplified fraction and mixed-number forms.
What is 5/3 as a fraction or mixed number?
5/3 is already an improper fraction in lowest terms (its GCD is 1). As a mixed number it is 1 2/3, since 3 goes into 5 once with a remainder of 2. As a decimal it is approximately 1.6667, or about 166.67%.
