Percentage Calculator
Calculate a percentage of a number, what percent one number is of another, percentage increase or decrease, and the percentage difference between two values — answers update as you type.
How to calculate a percentage
A percentage is a fraction out of 100. To find a percentage of a number, multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100 — for example, 20% of 150 is 150 × 20 ÷ 100 = 30. To find what percent one number is of another, divide the first by the second and multiply by 100. This calculator does all of these for you and shows the working.
Percentage increase, decrease and difference
Percentage change measures how much a value went up or down: subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. A positive result is an increase, a negative one is a decrease. Percentage difference compares two numbers without either being a "starting" value: it divides the gap between them by their average, then multiplies by 100.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 15% of 200 is 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30. Use the "% of a number" tab above.
How do I calculate percentage increase?
Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, and multiply by 100. The "% change" tab does this and tells you whether it's an increase or decrease.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Divide the first number by the second and multiply by 100. Use the "X is what % of Y" tab.
What's the difference between percentage change and percentage difference?
Percentage change is measured relative to a starting value (old to new). Percentage difference compares two numbers relative to their average, with no starting point — useful when neither value is "first".
